Bio: Gatsby is a lovely old man whose antics are sure to make you smile or even laugh out loud. Gatsby is semi-feral. *A semi-feral animal lives predominantly in a feral state but has some contact and experience with humans. He originally came from a horrible hoarding situation and made his way into EARS care via another rescue group, quite some time ago.

Gatsby has very little interest in human contact. He is quite content with his stuffies, looks forward to meal times and will come and gently take treats from your hand if you are gentle and move slowly with him. He so looks forward to getting treats, that he will bark in greeting and anticipation as you pull up to his kennel!

Gatsby would do well in two types of homes …. A quiet home with an experienced, patient, person, who has plenty of time to spend on desensitizing, counter conditioning and habituating Gatsby to living with humans and all that entails. For instance, have a set schedule for hand-feeding his meals, sitting with him to toss treats, and eventually giving him walks, handling and petting him.

Allowing him to approach people on his own, rather than forcing him to tolerate someone. OR A sanctuary type home, with a large securely fenced yard and a heated space for Gatsby to warm his old bones and live out his senior years in peace. Either way Gatsby would thrive with a routine; structure helps a dog feel more comfortable. Gatsby would also do well with a canine house or yard mate Gatsby has already been neutered and has had extensive dental work done.

He is available as a long term foster or for adoption by donation.
